Responsibilities

As an Associate Director - MEP Electrical Services with Hines Conceptual Construction Group (CCG) for Europe, you will primarily be responsible for supporting and consulting Pan-European Hines development teams during project pre-development phases including project consultant selection, budgeting, project design and buy-out of the HV/MV electrical infrastructure, grid/building connected PV systems as well as both traditional and cutting edge LV systems including but not limited to, small power, lighting and controls, ICT, access controls, CCTV and building management and controls systems. 

 

Additionally, you will contribute to the development, organization and training of the growing and evolving library of Pan-European CCG resources and standards such as Hines master MEP specifications, owner project requirements, design and development brief, embodied carbon guidelines and SMART buildings. Your specific responsibilities in these programs will be as directed by the MD MEP – Europe.

 

This position works closely with Hines Pan-European development and construction colleagues as well as their appointed design team in the design, cost management and programming from conception through the completion of the preconstruction phase.  As such, it is essential you possess the ability and the ambition to develop strong, trusting relationships with in-country Hines execution teams their selected consulting firms and contractors. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Your primary duty will be to provide in-house consultancy services across Europe advising local execution and design teams on best-in-class design and procurement strategies across all asset classes.
  • You will establish and maintain relationships with various Hines Central groups including ESG, NZ (Net Zero) Strategy team, Carbon team, Operations, Innovation, Business Technology, Central Engineering, Investment Management, Human Resources and Compliance among others.
  • Collaborate, support and lead various key strategic initiatives across the European platform such as ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategies, embodied and operational carbon reduction strategies, SMART Building solutions and vetting new and emerging prop-tech.
  • Advise and support local execution teams with the production of RFP’s for MEP consultancy services and support in the onboarding of consultants including commercial and technical scope negotiations.
  • Lead various workshops with design and development teams through the owner project requirements, client brief process and monitor consultants for compliance with the agreed basis of design and technical standards.
  • Undertake technical reviews and lead workshops through all project design stages to ensure design consistency, technical correctness, and cost effectiveness.  
  • Review and evaluate engineering budgets and allowances associated with each project.
  • Participate in and advise Hines development teams on contractor/subcontractor tenders including bid meetings and recommendation papers
  • Maintain and develop new contacts and key relationships with major engineering consultants, manufacturers, and contractors.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of project experience and “MEP lessons learned”, and regularly present and share these with local development teams across Europe.
  • Monitor MEP engineering trends and Pan-European market conditions.
  • Assist Hines construction management as a resource during construction phases.
  • Significant travel is required to meet the needs of Hines Pan-European Projects across 13 Countries – up to 50% of your time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Director of Conceptual Construction.

Qualifications

The ideal individual will possess the following attributes and qualifications:

 

  • BSc or BEng degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university is required. Chartered Status not necessary.
  • Seven or more years of design experience as an Electrical Engineer Professional working with engineering consulting firms involved with large scale projects, preferably in commercial office, residential, logistics and hospitality construction.
  • Ability and ambition to develop strong, trusting relationships with Pan-European Hines execution teams, consultants, contractors and manufacturers.
  • Be a proactive, dynamic, strategic, and critical thought leader.
  • Possess a thorough understanding and hands-on style of all aspects of preconstruction activity.
  • Excellent electrical engineering design and problem-solving skills coupled with creative and conceptual expertise.
  • Excellent computer spreadsheet, word processing and relevant professional software application skills.
  • Ability to utilize excellent written and oral presentation skills to successfully communicate and provide concise and effective technical advice using language and examples readily understood by non-technical individuals.
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity and ethics, complying with all applicable laws, codes and Hines standards.  
  • Fluent in speaking, reading and writing in English is required. Proficiency in multiple European language(s) is desirable but not required.
