Responsibilities

You will work within a sophisticated data environment to curate official investment track record and portfolio deliverables from a massive global portfolio of more than 1,200 individual real estate investments. The ideal candidate will utilize a strong data background to extract, transform and report on the Hines investment performance track record and investment portfolio in a detail-oriented way. As a key bridge between the Data & Analytics team and our business partners, the Analyst will need to design and maintain excel tools that can effectively organize large amounts of information. Additionally, the track record reporting responsibility involves investigating and understanding a myriad of real estate structures and financial outcomes and effectively communicating the identified narratives to internal and external clients. You will employ real estate and data knowledge within the larger Data & Analytics Team to guide the continued buildout and testing of new data capabilities. This role is dynamic and involves working closely with others on the Data & Analytics team, the Capital Markets team, the  Marketing and Communications team, and Regional/Internal teams to design and enhance our reporting and governance capabilities.

 

  • Maintain the integrity of the Hines track record and portfolio data by serving as a major contributor to data governance. Participate in the review and approval of quarterly datasets.

  • Coordinate the creation of standard quarterly and ad hoc outputs across several data domains, primarily track record and portfolio analytics.

  • Understand investor-level, project-level, and fund-level meta data and investment performance calculation methodologies (e.g. IRR, Equity Multiple, etc) and offer context and drivers of those performance measures.

  • Ensure that track record and portfolio analytics outputs adhere to compliance approved formats. Participate in the creation and application of disclaimers and disclosures that accompany performance deliverables.

  • Direct Capital Markets and Marketing teams in the use of compliance approved materials.

  • Coordinate, drive and support the publication of Hines firm stats and ensuring consistency and clarity through publication periods. Improve the system through each iteration of the exercise.

  • Think critically about Hines data processes and participate in the improvement of infrastructure and reporting methodologies to increase efficiency and clarity.

  • Onboard and maintain special population tracking. Create algorithms to identify areas of special interest within our populations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements include:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, real estate finance, or other data-specific field. Formal training in data manipulation is preferred.

  • Knowledge of data systems and database architecture is essential. Applicant needs to be able to interact directly with the database to extract, transform and report data. VBA experience is preferred.

  • Experience in commercial real estate investment, Development, Finance, Accounting, or Operations strongly preferred, with knowledge of various measures of investment performance.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Understanding of real estate concepts and functions. Ability to interact intelligently with various business lines and understanding of real estate performance KPIs

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Intermediate SQL skills

  • Experience in Power BI or other reporting tools (SSRS, Tableau, OBIEE, Crystal reports, Business Objects, Brio, etc.)

  • Comfort working with ambiguity and deriving concrete strategy

  • Willingness and ability to constantly be learning; Software, processes, and business needs are diverse and dynamic

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • End-user experience with data warehouses.

  • Ability to lift files, records, and computer paper (approximately 5-10 lbs.).

  • Ability to operate a computer, phone system and general office equipment.

  • Work over 40 hours per week as business needs deem appropriate.

  • Work indoors approximately 100% of the time.
